Board Election Procedures

The Board of Trustees consists of seven members serving terms of three years. The election of board members is by Place in accordance with Texas law. Elections are held on the first Saturday in May. Board members are sworn in at the May regular meeting.

The staggered Election Schedule is as follows:
 
2025 Place 6 and Place 7 - Kristi Hargrove and Megan Parsons
2026 Place 1 and Place 2 - Chris Neighbors and Kendall Carter
2027 Place 3, Place 4, and Place 5 - Michael Ferguson, Kathy Major, and Brandon Canady

The next Board of Trustees Election will take place on May 3, 2025. The window to file candidate applications is January 15, 2025 to February 14, 2025 at 5:00 p.m.

Requirements for Candidacy

To qualify as a candidate for the office of school board member, a person must be a resident of the district and a qualified voter in the election at which he or she is a candidate.

Candidate Application Forms
An application for a place on the ballot must be submitted by the required deadline. 

There is no filing fee and no compensation for the office of School Trustee. The office sought is “School Trustee Place 6 and Place 7”  for a 3-year term. Any application that does not specify the Place on the Board of Trustees being sought will be deemed invalid.
Candidates may pick up a packet or request that one be mailed to them from the Liberty Hill Independent School District Administration Building at 301 Forrest Street, Liberty Hill. The application and other forms are also available online from the Secretary of State and State Ethics Commission websites (links are available below).

A drawing will be conducted at the LHISD Administration Building to determine the order by which names will appear on the official ballot. (The candidate’s name will appear on the ballot precisely as the candidate indicated in the appropriate space on the application for a place on the ballot). 

Election Results:
The declared winner(s) shall be duly sworn and seated on the Board of Trustees following the official canvass of the election.

Official Results for May 4th, 2024 Board of Trustees Election

Place 3 – Trustee Michael Ferguson ran unopposed.
Place 4 - Trustee Kathy Major defeated Sharon Yager with 75.19 percent of the vote. 
Place 5 – Brandon Canady ran unopposed.

Ferguson, Major, and Canady will take the oath of office on May 20, 2024.
