LIBERTY HILL, Texas – Liberty Hill ISD is delighted to announce our new Chief of Schools Travis Motal following Monday night’s Board meeting on June 19. 

As Chief of Schools, Mr. Motal will oversee campus instructional programs and student experiences at all campuses. He will lead staff to support campus principals and assistant principals. He will be responsible for student support services in the areas of special education, 504 and counseling. In addition, he will provide guidance and support for staff of state and federal programs to ensure a high quality education for all students. “I am very thankful for this opportunity to work with all of the schools in Liberty Hill ISD – to help our campuses ensure all students can be champions in academics, character and community,” said Motal.

Mr. Motal has been the Director of Secondary Education in Liberty Hill ISD since July 2020. In this role he supervised the district's three secondary campuses; Liberty Hill Middle School, Santa Rita Middle School and Liberty Hill High School. In addition to this responsibility, he had oversight of the district's Career and Technical Education Program, Fine Arts Program, and School Safety and Security. 

Prior to his position as the Director of Secondary Education, he served as a middle school principal in Liberty Hill ISD for two years and a middle school and elementary principal for six years in Taylor ISD. He began his 20-year career in public education in Pflugerville ISD as a teacher and assistant principal. Mr Motal was named the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) Region 13, Middle School Principal of the Year in 2020. 

Mr. Motal has a Master’s in Educational Administration from Texas State University where he also earned his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. In December of 2020, he received his superintendent certification from the University of Texas at Tyler. Education runs in the house as Mr. Motal’s wife, Anjie, is an instructional coach for elementary school teachers in Leander ISD. They have been married for 16 years and have two children, Emma who is 13-years-old and Ben who is eight-years-old. They also have a dog named Cooper.
