Maternity Leave

Maternity/Paternity Leave Guidelines for Liberty Hill ISD Employees

Applying for Leave:

  • Initiate Family Medical Leave (FMLA): Please email the Benefits Department at least 30 days prior to your estimated due date or as soon as possible in case of an emergency.
  • Post-Application Process: After applying, our Benefits department will reach out with information about your eligibility for leave under FMLA, Temporary Disability Leave (TDL), or ADA accommodations.

Return to Work:

You do not need to provide a Return to Work Release from your healthcare provider to resume work. However, please maintain communication with the benefits department regarding any changes in your return to work date.

Types of Leave:

  1. FMLA for Maternity/Paternity (Unpaid):
    • Eligibility: Up to 12 weeks (60 workdays) in a 12-month period.
    • Start Date: Based on the baby’s estimated due date or the first missed work day.
    • Baby Bonding: FMLA can be used within one year of the child's birth.
  2. Temporary Disability Leave (TDL) for Childbirth (Unpaid):
    • Concurrent with FMLA.
    • Duration: Typically six weeks for normal delivery, eight weeks for a C-section, with required healthcare certification.
    • Start Date: From the first missed work day.
  3. ADA Accommodations for Childbirth (Unpaid):
    • Duration and Start Date: Same as TDL, with required healthcare certification.

Important Notes:

  • Health Plan Enrollment: To add your newborn to the Liberty Hill ISD health plan, please submit a request within 30 days of birth. Required documentation (birth certificate or adoption papers) should be submitted within 30 days of the birth or adoption.
  • Timeliness: Late requests or documentation may result in denial of benefits or delayed enrollment.

For any changes or questions, please contact the email the Benefits Department for guidance.
