Liberty Hill ISD Board of Trustees Names Travis Motal as Lone Finalist for Superintendent
LIBERTY HILL, Texas, Dec. 17, 2025 – The Liberty Hill Independent School District Board of Trustees is pleased to announce Travis Motal as the lone finalist for the position of Superintendent of Schools. This determination follows a statewide search process and the collection of feedback from Liberty Hill ISD staff and community members to identify the finalist who best meets the needs of the district and its students.
Mr. Motal brings 23 years of educational leadership experience to Liberty Hill ISD, with a proven track record of advancing student achievement, practicing fiscal responsibility, and fostering strong community engagement. He has served as Interim Superintendent since March 2025, providing steady leadership during a time of significant growth and organizational change.
"I am honored and humbled to be selected as the lone finalist for Liberty Hill ISD," said Mr. Motal. "Throughout my career, I have been committed to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to achieve at high levels. I look forward to working collaboratively with the Board, staff, families, and community members to build upon Liberty Hill ISD's strong foundation and continue building champions in academics, character and community."
Mr. Motal’s experience spans all levels of K–12 education, from classroom teacher to district leadership. He holds a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Texas State University and maintains Texas certifications as a superintendent, principal and teacher. He is also an active member of the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA), including service on the TASA legislative advocacy committee, and participates in multiple professional organizations dedicated to educational excellence.
During his tenure in district leadership, Mr. Motal has demonstrated strong fiscal stewardship. Under his leadership, the district earned an “A–Superior” rating through the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas. After voters approved the Voter-Approval Tax Ratification Election (VATRE) in November, he is ensuring the funds support continued safety initiatives, restore student programs that had been reduced, and increase teacher and staff compensation.
In addition to financial leadership, Mr. Motal has played a key role in managing district growth and facilities planning. He was instrumental in the construction of new facilities and developed a creative solution to expand three elementary campuses from 800 to 1,000 students, saving the district millions of dollars.
With a strong belief in collaboration and transparency, Mr. Motal has worked to strengthen partnerships between the district and the community. He established the district’s first attendance boundary advisory committee, reengaged the Long Range Planning Committee, and expanded the Adopt-a-Campus program to ensure every campus has community representation. He also partnered with Operation Liberty Hill to support students in need, redeveloped the Superintendent Advisory Committee, and engaged with the Youth Advisory Council.
Mr. Motal’s commitment to students and families extends beyond his professional role. For over six years, he has volunteered as a member of the Williamson County Child and Youth Task Force, further demonstrating his dedication to the well-being of children in the community.
Always mindful of supporting staff, Mr. Motal launched innovative employee recognition programs and secured critical partnerships, including an interlocal agreement with the UT Regional Security Operations Center to strengthen district cybersecurity resources.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Mr. Motal values time with his family and staying connected to the activities that matter most to students and families. He and his wife, Anjie, enjoy spending time with their children, Emma (17) and Ben (11), along with their dog, Cooper. Mr. Motal is an avid football fan and has been actively involved in youth athletics, having served as both a coach and a referee—roles that have allowed him to stay closely connected to students, teamwork, and sportsmanship beyond the classroom.
Prior to serving as Interim Superintendent, Mr. Motal held several leadership roles within Liberty Hill ISD, including Chief of Schools, Director of Secondary Education and Liberty Hill Junior High Principal. He also served as a principal in Taylor ISD prior to coming to Liberty Hill ISD. In 2020, he was named Region 13 Middle School Principal of the Year by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP).
"Mr. Motal's comprehensive experience and demonstrated success in educational leadership make him an outstanding choice to lead our district," said Board President Megan Parsons. "His commitment to student achievement, fiscal stewardship and community engagement align perfectly with our district's values and goals. The Board is confident that Mr. Motal has the vision, expertise and collaborative approach necessary to guide our district through continued growth and excellence."
Mr. Motal’s experience managing rapid district growth, overseeing comprehensive educational programs, and building strong community partnerships positions him well to serve as Liberty Hill ISD’s next superintendent.
Following the required 21-day waiting period under Texas law, the Board is expected to vote on the final selection at the Board meeting on Jan. 20, 2026.
