Liberty Hill ISD Welcomes New Wrestling Program Fall 2023
Liberty Hill ISD will welcome its newest sports program to the district this fall – WRESTLING! Boys and girls from grades nine through 12 will be eligible to participate in the UIL Wrestling program. “As we grow, we are seeing a need for this program at LHISD,” said Athletic Director Kent Walker. “We are excited to add this to our list of athletic programs offered to our students.”
In addition to the new program, we will also welcome a new Panther to our family this fall. Coach Daniel Zieschang will be entering his seventh year of coaching and education as the head wrestling coach, as an assistant football coach, and as an English teacher at Liberty Hill High School.
Coach Zieschang grew up in Round Rock, Texas, before attending Texas Tech University, where he majored in English and minored in Secondary Education. Following graduation, he moved to Cypress, Texas, to accept a coaching and teaching job at Cypress Springs High School in Cypress Fairbanks ISD. He has spent the last six years at Cypress Springs High School, where he currently serves as head wrestling coach and varsity inside linebackers coach. While working at Cypress Springs High School, he obtained his Master’s of Education Administration from Lamar University.
Coach Zieschang married his wife Haley in December of 2018. Haley currently works as a social worker. Coach Zieschang and his wife welcomed their beautiful daughter Austin into their lives this past summer. Coach Zieschang enjoys spending his free time outside of education by playing with his two dogs, hunting in south Texas, and participating in events with his church.
Coach Zieschang loves the sport of wrestling and is excited to be bringing it to Liberty Hill. “I feel blessed to have this opportunity,” said Zieschang. “I’ve seen sports do a lot of positive things for kids, but rarely have I seen a sport do as much to develop people, in a positive way, as I have seen wrestling do for the kids that I have worked with over the course of my career. Wrestling is a sport that requires the utmost amounts of commitment, hard work, and passion to succeed. Seeing student-athletes grow in these areas and win on the mat is incredibly rewarding, and I’m excited to be able to bring the opportunity to do so to the Liberty Hill community. We are excited to be Panthers!”
Stay tuned as additional details about the wrestling program will be posted soon.
