Liberty Hill Middle School Commemorates Women's History Month with a Leadership Panel
More than 40 young ladies gathered in the Liberty Hill Middle School library to learn and ask questions of women leaders and entrepreneurs during the LHMS Women’s History Month panel on March 23. Knowing where our value comes from, finding a good support system, and knowing we are each made with purpose were the overarching themes as panel members answered a variety of questions from the students.
The history of women in America has evolved over the decades. Now women are truly able to do anything they can imagine. The panel encouraged our girls to be patient as it does take time to find our feet in our world. Not needing to be popular, but rather finding a core friend group that will uplift and encourage our efforts is very important. WORC Fitness owner Latoya Easter encouraged the girls not to allow social media to run their lives. “Your value does not come from how many likes you get.” We all have critics, but our value should come from within rather than from others.
The panel discussed influential women in their lives, most of whom reminisced on grandmothers who taught them how to be strong women of grace and determination. “Have confidence, believe in yourself, but not to the detriment of others,” said LHISD Board President Megan Parsons. “You each have value, you are enough as you are.”
The girls were also encouraged to thrive without putting others down. “We don’t have to be in competition with each other, we don’t need to step on each other to be successful,” said Judge Donna King.
“Be the light, build people up, be courageous, be innovative, don’t be afraid, and make a difference,” said Easter.
The panel members were:
Mrs. Megan Parsons - Liberty Hill ISD Board President
Judge Donna King - Presiding judge of the 26th State District Court in Williamson County
Dr. Angela Wilson - Veterinarian at Liberty Hill Veterinary Wellness
Dr. Priyanka Agrawal - Dentist at Prime Dental
Ms. Latoya Easter - WORC (Willpower Optimism Resilience Courage) Fitness Owner and former High School Principal
Officer Patricia Champion - Liberty Hill Middle School School Resource Officer
Women’s History Month commemorates and encourages the study, observance and celebration of women and their vital role in American history. We encourage you to take a moment in your day and thank a woman who has been especially important to you!
